The Motorsport UK Wera Tools British Kart Championships moves rapidly towards the mid-point of the season and drivers in the IAME, KZ2 and Bambino classes will head for Wales this weekend [17-19 June] as the Glan-Y-Gors circuit in Snowdonia plays host to the fifth event of the season.
The popular track in the heart of the North Wales countryside will form the third counting round of the season for IAME and KZ2 whilst Bambino protagonists contest their second points scoring opportunity of the year.
The stunning mountainous backdrop for the UK’s premier karting series is often referred to as Wales’s mini-Nurburgring. An undulating track, it’s a favourite among karters with its fast, sweeping turns and varying gradient. Look out for Devil’s Elbow in the final sector where the track drops away dramatically keeping the eager racers on their toes.
IAME Cadet, Junior X30 and Senior X30 racers and KZ2 drivers have already completed rounds at Shenington and Warden Law with just over two weeks before their next encounter at Rissington. Bambino karters kicked off their season at Warden Law but have a summer break to look forward to after Wales.
But the fight for supremacy in Britain’s premier karting series resumes this weekend as Friday hosts Practice, with Saturday seeing the Timed Qualifying and first heats taking place. Sunday houses the remainder of the heats for KZ2 and Bambino, Pre-Finals and all-important Finals.

Classes
IAME Cadet
Jensen Graham heads a Fusion Motorsport train on the championship tables with a five point lead over Jesse Phillips. Graham hasn’t been off the podium positions yet this season which sees him lead the chasing pack, but Phillips’ Warden Law Finals win shows a sign of intent.
‘O Plate’ Jorge Edgar is third but only has three points in hand over Kit Belofsky. Henry Domain has the honour of being the first non-Fusion contender, heading to Wales for Oliver Rowland Motorsport in fifth spot.
Expect bumper grids and dramatic racing this weekend in the hills!

Junior X30
Gabriel Stilp [Croc Promotion] was on fine form in the wet conditions in Sunderland last time out to take a clean sweep of maximum points and lead the Junior X30 charge heading into the weekend.
It wasn’t clear cut however, as he had to battle hard with Fionn McLaughlin [Fusion Motorsport] and Brandon Carr [KR-Sport] in the Final. But his performances this season mean he has 10 points in hand heading to Wales from McLaughlin.
Leo Robinson [Fusion Motorsport] couldn’t quite hook up a podium at Warden Law and will be fighting with Carr to retain third in the standings whilst Henry Joslyn [Mick Barrett Racing] sits fifth.
Like its Cadet younger brother, the entry list is bulging with talent and will be one to watch over the weekend.

Senior X30
Aaron Walker had hold of the lead of the Warden Law Final before falling away to second by the time the flag dropped, but still did enough to lead the Senior X30 standings for Strawberry Racing.
It was Croc Promotions Khali Atkins who took the victory in the Senior X30, adding to a superb weekend but is well down the points after a troubled opening round. Bart Harrison [Mick Barrett Racing] is Walker’s nearest challenger whilst the ‘GP Plate’ of Harry Platten is third for BMR heading to GYG.
Gus Lawrence [PF International Karting] is fourth and 27 points behind the leader whilst Thomas Fleming [DHR] had a tough Warden Final to sit fifth.

KZ2
GYG will be a circuit of two halves for the ultra-rapid gearbox karts in KZ2. The first super-fast opening section tests the bravery whilst the latter technical section will reward precision driving. And the standings are as close as the racing with Warden Law Finals winner Charlie Turner {Rush Performance] holding a slender one-point margin over Dan Kelly [Andy Fairless Racing]. Turner was on fine form last time out, lapping all but six of his rivals on the damp track to claim victory by more than seven seconds over Tom Adams [Rush Performance] who is third in the points as a result.
Bradley Barrett [Sodi Vitesse] and Privateer and former champion Joe Charlton sit fourth and fifth respectively heading to Wales.

Bambino
Despite Chester Forkes taking the opening round Finals win at Warden Law, it’s Riley Murro who leads the points heading into round two courtesy of a Heats win and taking second to Forkes.
But just four points separate the young racers and Austin Oman sits a further two back in third, meaning the second round is likely to be as unpredictable as the first. Harper Das enjoyed a consistent run to take a Heat and Finals third place to sit fourth with Charlie Page fifth.
Just twenty points split the top ten positions to expect a leader board switch after the weekend.
