The Motorsport UK Wera Tools British Kart Championships resumes its action-packed calendar after a short break, as the series heads for Kimbolton in Cambridgeshire this weekend (12-13 May).
Contenders in the IAME and TKM classes are fresh from their Shenington encounter just two weeks ago and will contest an almost back-to-back weekend of action at the 999 metre circuit which is a firm drivers favourite thanks to its fast and flowing yet technical nature; the perfect host for Britain’s premier karting series.
With the KZ2 gearbox contenders heading to Mansell raceway for their next counter, six classes will go head-to-head this weekend with yet more bumper grids set to provide the scintillating racing and last gasp position changes across the entire field.
Due to continuing restrictions, spectators will not be permitted to attend the circuit, but the British Kart Championship’s online coverage will ensure fans and followers will not miss a second of the action during Sunday’s Finals.
Live coverage throughout the day will be broadcast on the British Kart Championship’s Facebook page as well as the popular Motorsport.TV platform. Footage will also feature on YouTube, whilst the BKC social channels provide a behind the scenes look at the weekend’s activities.
This year’s British kart Championships have seen over 450 registrations across the classes with an exciting mix of newcomers and returning champions, ensuring another bumper entry will head for the second counter of the season for the IAME and TKM protagonists.
With Friday hosting the first Practice sessions of the weekend, Saturday gets the action underway with Qualifying and the opening Heats of the meeting. Sunday provides a short Warm-up session before the remaining Heats and Finals.

IAME
IAME Cadet
Fusion Motorsport’s Jorge Edgar had a perfect start to his 2021 campaign with a first-round win but holds a slender one-point advantage over the Oliver Rowland Motorsport driver Lewis Wherrell so will need to be on form this weekend.
Daniel Sofronea (Oliver Rowland Motorsport) enjoyed a storming run to second in the Shenington final but has some catching up to do on his rivals, as third place in the points Zac Drummond (Fusion Motorsport) has a nine-point lead over his sixth spot in the standings.
Aston Sharp gives Fusion Motorsport three contenders in the top four heading into the weekend.
Mini X30
Leading every lap of the ‘Sheny’ final, Fusion Motorsport’s Leo Robinson will aim for further dominance this weekend, but with 23 Mini X30 contenders on his tail, it could be a tall order for the young racer. Macauley Bishop (PMR Driver Programme) heads into the meeting as his closest challenger in the points tables but is already 13 points behind the leader with Wesley Swain (Fusion Motorsport) and Jack Hobson (MLC Motorsport) separated by just one point in fourth and fifth respectively.
Junior X30
The big grids in Junior X30 are sure to provide a hotbed of action this weekend and a photo finish over the line at Shenington between the top five offers up an indication of what is in store. Despite winning the final, Dan Holland Racing’s Olivier Algieri is second in the standings to Argenti Motorsport’s Daniel Guinchard who has 11 points in hand going into the weekend. Jessica Edgar’s (Fusion Motorsport) podium spot last time around sees her in a prime position to capitalise on a strong season start thanks to a nine-point margin over MLR’s Harvey Riby in fourth.
Senior X30
Clayton Ravenscroft (KR-Sport) finished second in the round one final, but a pre-final win netted him the series lead after the opener. That lead is slender, however, as just one point separates him from finals victor Alessandro Ceronetti (Strawberry Racing) who took the finals win in round one and teammate Thomas Turner who both tie on points in second.
Lewis Mackie will undoubtedly be aiming for another podium spot after third in round one and the Fusion Motorsport driver will be looking to close the gap to the leaders at Kimbolton.
TKM
Junior TKM
Close on-track and close off track – the Junior TKM class provided nose to tail racing to kick-start the season which saw TWM’s James Morley and Alistair Cresswell tie on points after the opening counter of the year. Creswell will want to repeat his Final’s victory but with Alfie Garford just a point behind heading into the weekend, the pressure will be on for each of the leading trio. Klassen Motorsport’s Reece Lomax is just five points shy in fourth – a podium place would help his championship aspirations no end heading into the month’s break after this meeting.
TKM Extreme
Privateer James Pashley stands on top of the TKM Extreme tables with a fine Shenington win and has a 12-point advantage Precision Racing’s Lewis Wadley and Litchfield Motorsport’s Joseph Reeves-Smith who tie for the second spot. Number one seed Adam Sparrow is fourth but only two points separate him from sixth. It is guaranteed to be an intense weekend of action for the TKM Extreme contenders at Kimbolton.
