The Wera Tools British Kart Championships continues this weekend as the Rotax, Honda and KZ2 classes head to the popular Mansell Raceway in Devon (26-27 June). The southernmost track on the BKC calendar has long been a favourite of drivers and the perfect place to resume Britain’s premier karting series.
The 1032 metre circuit hosts the second round for the categories and enjoys a long association to Formula One legend Nigel Mansell CBE. The track features a dynamic mix of technical corners and long straights to promote fantastic battles on track and offering plenty of overtaking opportunities.
Due to continuing restrictions, spectators will not be permitted to attend the circuit, but the British Kart Championship’s online coverage will ensure fans and followers will not miss a moment of the action during Sunday’s Finals.
Live coverage throughout the day will be broadcast by Alpha Live on the British Kart Championship’s and Karting Magazine’s Facebook page as well as the popular Motorsport.TV platform. Footage will also feature on YouTube, whilst the BKC social channels provide a behind the scenes look at the weekend’s activities.
The entry list boasts an exciting mix of newcomers and returning champions, ensuring another bumper entry of almost 200 drivers heading for the second counter of the season for the Rotax, Honda and KZ2 classes.
Saturday gets the action underway with Qualifying and the opening Heats of the meeting whilst Sunday provides a short Warm-up session before the remaining Heats and Finals. With points awarded for Heats, Pre-finals and Finals, it’s not all about the final result with drivers being rewarded for consistency over the weekend.
Rotax
Minimax
Ethan Jeff-Hall (Strawberry Racing) looks to build on his win in the final at Clay Pigeon but it’s Harrison Crowther (Coles Racing) who comes into round two leading the championship by a slender 3 points over Leighton Cooper (DHR). The Strawberry Racing driver sits in third only 3 points behind and as often in the BKC, it’s all still to play for going into the weekend with overtaking a regular sight at Mansell Raceway.
Junior Rotax
With their final cut short at the Clay Pigeon opener due to the biblical weather, it was Daniel Guinchard (Argenti Motorsport) who took honours in the pre-final and with it the championship lead arriving at Mansell Raceway. Leon Henderson (Strawberry Racing) and Neo Clarke (Sam Pollitt Racing) finished the pre-final second and third on the road respectively which is also their championship positions.
Senior Rotax
Following round one at Clay Pigeon, Rhys Hunter (DHR) holds a seven point lead over Sean Butcher (KR Sport) and will be looking to build the lead gap after a consistent weekend last time out. Taking a gamble to run on wets in the pre-final and climbing a stunning 20 places, Oakley Pryer (Team Clay Racing) sits in third place in the championship but tied on points with Sean Butcher.
Second, third and fourth in the championship heading into Mansell all are all tied on 172 points, proving just how close the championship battle is likely to be throughout the season.
Rotax 177
After winning Heat two, Prefinal and Final at Clay Pigeon, Daniel Tate (Strawberry Racing) holds the largest lead out of all the championships heading out on track this weekend. Consistent driving in the ever changing conditions gives him an 11 point lead over Louis Large (Coles Racing) coming into round two. Privateer Nathan Chafer sits in third and will be looking to enjoy a strong drive once again to prove is position as a contender for this year’s championship.
Honda Cadet
Noah Wolfe (Synergy Race Team) came away from Clay Pigeon leading the Honda Cadet championship. Not content with contesting just one championship this year, Wolfe also battles in the IAME Cadet class but will looking to further extend his Honda lead throughout the weekend. Timo Jungling and Leon Hastie, make it a SFR Motorsport second and third in the hunt for the championship top spot and the team will be looking to continue their momentum and edge Wolfe out of top spot.
KZ2
KZ2 sees Rush Performance drivers sitting first and second in the championship after great drives from James Glenister and Dan Gould. Allan Kenyon (Privateer) currently lies in third but only five points behind second place. With the gearbox karts able to really stretch their legs at Mansell, expect thrilling on-track action with speed of over 100 miles per hour and a tight-knit chasing pack a regular sight in the category.
