Each week we are speak to our 2019 Champions and ask them some all important questions to see what makes them tick.

Next up is 2019 Senior Rotax Champion – Guy Cunnington

How did you get started in the sport?

My dad raced Cars, Karts and Bikes, and worked with Race Cars so it’s always been part of the family.

What was the highlight of your title winning year?

Winning every race at Mansell Raceway and under huge pressure every race at Forest to win the title, even though we entered under a team, because of issues the team could not attend most meetings so we were dad and lad for lots of rounds and thankfully still pulled it off.

What was your low point last season?

PFi, the first round where we had mechanical issues the whole meeting.

Why do you enjoy competing in Karting and the BKC?

I want to race at the highest level possible, we are a normal family and race 90% as a privateer set up so no big team (up until last year), no big budget, our kart is 3 years old and we have one motor that we own, (we hired one for the BKC). Thankfully we have had great success so to race and win the BKC was amazing and it will stay with me and the family forever.

What’s your favourite circuit?

Forest Edge.

Who has been your toughest rival?

Kieran Gifford.

When we do get underway, what are your hopes for the new season?

From my 2019 success we have had interest, I’m happy to say we are racing the Euro IAME Series with Strawberry so we aim to win that Championship.

Due to the delayed start to the season what are you planning on doing with this unexpected time off from racing?

I’ve been doing some instruction and helping other drivers on race craft, set up, race management and mechanics of the kart, so I’m building that up.

We wish Guy and everyone in the BKC well. Stay safe and look after each other. We will be back in action before you know it #StayOnTrack
