The Wera Tools British Kart Championships will feature in the FIA International Karting Ranking for the first time in 2024, a computerised global ranking system offering an opportunity for British Kart Championship drivers to be propelled onto the world’s stage.

Open to any registered driver  in the 2024 BKC*, the International Karting Ranking system is an FIA  leaderboard open to all drivers holding a licence issued by a National Sporting Authority (ASN) recognised by the FIA.  The system is  based on a model similar to the ATP rankings in tennis and other sporting global ranking systems.

This ranking gives an overall view of a driver’s performance regardless of the category* in which they compete within  the BKC. It’s an additional opportunity to reward drivers through an overall global ranking that gives priority to consistency of performance throughout the year, as the eight best results are taken into account and a prestigious trophy at the end of year prize giving ceremony.

In 2023 over 2000 drivers were classified globally in some of the most competitive championships in the world and the winner was none other than BKC graduate Lewis Wherrell. All drivers that are entered for the BKC in eligible classes are automatically entered into the ranking system.

Head of Karting Dan Parker commented “Introducing the FIA International Karting Ranking system to the British Kart Championships marks a significant advancement in recognising and celebrating the diverse talent within our championship. This system, akin to global ranking structures in other sports, provides a comprehensive overview of a driver’s performance across categories. The British Kart Championship is dedicated to acknowledging and rewarding excellence, and this new ranking system adds an extra layer of prestige.

“It’s a testament to our commitment to fostering a culture of competitiveness and achievement among karting enthusiasts. We’re excited to see the impact this will have on our drivers and look forward to awarding the prestigious trophy to those who consistently shine throughout the season.”
